Histology and Microscopy Core

The Histology and Microscopy Core performs routine processing, microscopy slide preparation and morphological examination of biological tissues. The core also performs immunohistological and immunofluorescent localization of specific proteins of interest. The core is equipped with microtomes (for paraffin sectioning), cryostats (for cryosectioning), light microscopes connected to a digital camera and image analysis software and a confocal microscope (with both image capture and real-time imaging capabilities). The Histology and Microscopy Core is also responsible for keeping investigators informed of the latest imaging techniques applicable for each of the subprojects. The core is under the directorship of Christine Maric, PhD. Her responsibilities include the overall supervision of the core and assistance and training of individual users.
